The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a country in the Arabian Peninsula that borders Oman and Saudi Arabia in the southeast. Demography

Only about one-ninth of the emirates’ residents are citizens. The remainder is mostly foreign workers and their dependents, with Indians making up the largest of these groups. Southeast Asians, including many Filipinos, have also immigrated in increasing numbers to work in various sectors.

The UAE Economy

The UAE is the Middle East’s third-largest economy, the second-largest economy in the Arab world (after Saudi Arabia) with a GDP of USD 414 billion, and one-third of the GDP comes from oil revenues. However, economic diversification has reduced the oil and gas sector’s share of the country’s GDP to 30 %. Additionally, the country’s free trade zones attract foreign investors by offering 100% foreign ownership and almost zero taxes. Other economic sectors are agriculture and fishing, power, manufacturing, services, and labour.

The wealthiest of the emirates, Abu Dhabi contains one of the largest concentrations of the world’s proven oil reserves and contributes a significant portion of the national budget. While the emirate of Dubai is centred more on business, it serves as a commercial and financial hub for the region and leads the country in economic diversification.
