No More Work Permits for Visitors Who Apply from Inside Canada

The Canadian government has terminated its policy that allowed visitors to apply for work permits from within Canada.
In a statement, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) disclosed that the termination takes effect immediately. However, the application period ended before it expired on February 28, 2025.

161 Nigerian Students Fail UK Border Checks, Denied Entry

No fewer than 1,425 international students who gained admission to universities in the United Kingdom were denied entry at the country’s airports between 2021 and 2023.

A total of 161 Nigerians were affected, as they were removed on arrival at airports across the UK.

According to data exclusively obtained from the UK Home Office through the Freedom of Information Act, India topped the list of affected foreign students with 644, representing 45 per cent of the figure, while Nigeria followed with 11.3 per cent. Ghana is third on the list with 92 (6.46 per cent), while Bangladesh is fourth with 90 (6.32 per cent).

Foreign minister Antonio Tajani said on Thursday that he wanted more African students to come to Italy, in remarks that may exacerbate a coalition squabble over immigration and citizenship rights.

Tajani’s centre-right Forza Italia party has urged the government to consider granting citizenship to foreign minors who have completed most of their education in Italy.

The proposal has met with opposition from the two hard-right coalition parties, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy and Matteo Salvini’s League.
