Mahari (1504 E. 55th Street) offers the rice fritter known as calas from New Orleans; spiced, grilled suya skewers with mushroom instead of the typical beef from Nigeria; samosa-like sambusas from East Africa; and Caribbean ingredients like plantains and the Haitian slaw pikliz, all served alongside drinks crafted with African and Caribbean spirits and flavors.

Mahari serves dishes from “anywhere food traveled from Africa throughout the world,” says chef Rahim Muhammad. “It brings us to our focus of African, Caribbean, Latin food. They all tie into each other and have similar roots.”

The Ministry of Interior says new passport printers have been installed in Nigeria’s Atlanta and New York consulates to ease passport applications.

A statement on Wednesday in Abuja by the Minister of Interior’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr Babatunde Alao, stated that the devices were delivered and installed on Feb.18.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the installation followed a petition by Nigerians in diaspora, calling on the attention of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to ease the process of passport application in the U.S.

The United States government has announced plans to deport at least 201 Nigerians as part of its immigration enforcement policies.
According to U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria Richard Mills Jr., 85 individuals have already been cleared for immediate deportation.

The deportees, who will be repatriated to Lagos, include convicted criminals currently serving jail terms in the U.S. and individuals who have violated immigration laws.
