Demand for alternative residence and citizenship programs among Nigerians has surged by more than 1000% in the last three years, according to Henley and Partners.

This remarkable growth was highlighted during the 2024 Investment Migration West Africa Roadshow held in Abuja, where Nigerians were presented with opportunities to improve their global mobility and access better living standards abroad.

Stuart Wakeling, Managing Partner for the UK at Henley and Partners emphasized the growing interest in securing a “Plan B” for many Nigerians.

He explained that as global uncertainties rise, more Nigerians are exploring options to live, work, and travel with fewer restrictions.

“We are witnessing a massive increase in interest from Nigerians who want greater mobility and opportunities for their families, including access to quality education and healthcare,” Wakeling said.

The roadshow introduced several popular investment migration programs, including the Portugal Golden Residence Permit, Greece Golden Visa, and Spain Residence by Investment Program. These programs allow individuals to gain residency or citizenship by making significant investments in areas such as real estate or business ventures.

For Nigerians, these programs offer a chance to secure a better future, with Wakeling noting that “it’s not just about leaving Nigeria; it’s about expanding horizons and ensuring long-term stability.” He stressed the importance of having a “Plan B” in a world where many face increasing uncertainty, adding, “The jurisdiction of our birth can be a blessing, but it can also be a barrier.”

As the demand for investment migration continues to grow, Wakeling highlighted that changes in costs and entry requirements across Europe and the Caribbean make it vital for Nigerians to act quickly to seize the best opportunities. “The landscape is dynamic and evolving, but the demand for our services continues to grow,” he noted.
