On Tuesday, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) conducted a successful repatriation operation, bringing back 155 stranded Nigerians from Libya.

According to a post by the National Emergency Management Agency (@nemanigeria) on X, the IOM facilitated the voluntary repatriation exercise, ensuring the safe return of the individuals.

The flight, operated by Al Buraq Air with registration number 5A-DMG, landed at the Cargo Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos, at approximately 5:55 pm.

Among the returnees were 29 males, 111 females, 11 children, and one infant, all of whom some of them expressed their joy upon arriving back in Nigeria.

The repatriation operation was coordinated by various agencies, including NEMA, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, the Nigeria Refugee Commission, the Nigerian Immigration Service, and the Nigeria Port Health Services.

This successful operation marks another instance of collaboration between IOM and the Federal Government in ensuring the safe return of Nigerian citizens stranded abroad.

In a similar event last September, IOM, in collaboration with the Federal Government, repatriated 155 Nigerian irregular migrants stranded across various parts of Libya.

The returnees arrived in Lagos on board an Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-800 with registration number 5A-DMG.

Among the 155 returnees that arrived, 125 were females, 22 males and eight infants.
